J's Paper Doll Poem: "Twas a Couple of Weeks before Christmas"...
‘Twas a couple of weeks before Christmas, when all through the mall,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a paper doll;
Their outfits were drawn by the artist with care,
In hopes that little children soon would be there;
The children were gathered around the computer upstairs,
As visions of paper dolls danced in pairs.
So Momma with her paint brush, and I with my scanner,
Arranged our paper dolls in much the same manner.
When out on the web there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my desktop to see what was the matter!
Away through Windows, I flew to our paper doll site,
To check out www.pjscorner.net byte by byte.
The snowflakes were falling like new-fallen snow,
As I clicked on the paper doll link on the top row;
When what to my wondering eyes should I see,
But a page full of paper dolls waiting for me.
With a little teddy named Neddy, and International Friends,
More paper animals, Family Friends, Universal kids and twins;
More and more of these paper dolls they came,
As the children personalized and called them by name!
"Now, Rueben! Now, Rachel! Now Janae and Melly!
On, Amber! On, Chrissy! On, Juanita and AnnaBelle(y)!
Now, Gracie! Now, Su-Lang! Now, Natasha and PJ’s Paper Baby Doll,
Now, cut away, cut away, cut away all!”
Now, Fawn! Now, Donnie! Now Andy and Gunny!
On, Tuppy! On, Smitty! On, Neddy and Penny!
Now away to their beds the children they flew,
Leaving the site open, so their parents could see, too.
And then in a twinkling, the parents could see,
How much fun cutting out paper dolls really could be.
I wrote this poem, adapting it from Clement C. Moore’s “A Visit From St. Nicholas”, more popularly know as “’Twas The Night Before Christmas”. It was published in PJ's Paper Doll Memories eNewlsetter in December of 2005 and posted on our paper doll blog, PJ's Paper Doll Cut Outs, December 6, 2006.

Research from Naomi in England...

Well, Naomi is at it again! She found some information to add to the file on our new International Friends Paper Dolls. The next seven paper dolls in the series are from BRAZIL, COSTA RICA, EGYPT, ITALY, IRELAND, POLAND & SCOTLAND. They will join paper dolls from RUSSIA, AFRICA, MEXICO, JAPAN, NATIVE AMERICA, THE UNITED STATES and ENGLAND.

Our records show that four of these dolls were created last year for a lady that was going to do a banquet for some representatives at Gerber. She didn't win her bid, so we didn't get the order for place cards and flower arrangement displays, however, we had four International Dolls that we could add to our PJ's International Friends Paper Dolls set! Benita from BRAZIL, Adelita from COSTA RICA, Shani from EGYPT and Hanna from POLAND were dusted off and will make their debut in a couple of days.

UPDATE: Major satellite problems, orders and opening our "PJ's CafePress Gift Shoppe" pushed the International Paper Doll Friends debut off until after the holidays. Mom and I have our hands full! The image above is of Benita's Place Cards, the doll and the flower.

Rte Theme over at OPDAG: PJ's Etta Rae is published in the Fall Issue of "Paper Doll Studio", The Quarterly Publication of the Original Paper Doll Artists Guild. The OPDAG Publication uses the black 'n' white version of the dolls and their outfits except for one doll that is chosen for the color insert. Etta Rae is printed in black 'n' white in the publication, however we added her here in all her glorious splendor of color!
We have a paper doll coming out early next year in the "Contemporary Doll Collector's Magazine"!
esearch on "paper doll" search terms: paper dolls, animal paper dolls, paper doll memories & paper doll blogs...
...paper dolls...The 608,000 results for "paper dolls" drops drastically from 9,810,000 in June '07 and 8,900,000 in March '07. The changes at Google must have been a main factor in these results. I found PJ's Paper Dolls at #265 on page 27! In June I couldn't find us.
...animal paper dolls...We have been tracking "animal paper dolls" and it dropped significantly as well. In March '07 the search results numbered 1,780,000 declining in June '07 to 1,610,000. December '07 results only number 391,000.
Our PJ's Little Animal Paper Dolls page was listed #9 on the first page! While I found our PJ's Gift Shoppe Diary October 10, 2007 post titled "PJ's Paper Dolls" at #14 and PJ's Main Paper Doll page was listed at #16. I found something very disturbing. Earlier this year I changed the address to our Paper Doll Cut Outs blog. Someone has pirated the old address and has very offensive links on it.
Through Blogger I was able to flag the blog so that they will take care of this problem. So I strongly suggest to anyone that has a blog or starts one, be very sure what you want the address to your blog to be and if you do change, keep the old one on your dashboard with a link to the new blog displayed prominently on the old blog!
...paper doll memories...The results for "paper doll memories" brought PJ's eNewsletter, Catalog 'n' Blog page up at #1, our old paper doll blog as #2, our Blog Explosion Member Profile at #4 and #9 for our Blog Catalog Profile for PJ's Paper Doll Cut Outs, PJ's International Friends Paper Doll page was listed at #12 and #19 for a post on our Twiglet, the Little Christmas Tree blog!
...paper doll blogs...The last search term that we are tracking is "paper doll blogs". This search brought up our old paper doll blog at #5. I am working on get the old blog deleted!

Inks to Paper Doll Articles: "How I Imagine Paper Dolls Were Invented" Article by Janey Loree

How I Image Paper Dolls Were Created

The idea of cutting out clothes has been around for centuries. We have used many different mediums to clothe our families. So in the spirit of creating and designing outfits that adorn for beauty, comfort, or necessity, the idea of paper dolls was born.

I can imagine the very first designer of clothes looking at her creations laid out on the drawing table thinking that they would make wonderful toys for the children in the village. Getting excited about the idea, she probably said out loud, "Now I will have to fashion a little paper doll to wear these miniature designs".

A little girl must have been hovering near the drawing board as the designer cut out that very first outfit. I can see the little girl with stars in her eyes, waiting not so patiently, excitement evident in her chatter as she asks for the hundredth time, "is it cut out yet?" And then, when it is finally her turn to use the scissors, she carefully cuts out another dress for her new toy. She does not want to be left out of this new idea! She has embarked on an adventure of a life time as her imagination is sparked and the little girl sits for hours playing with her first little paper doll.
