We Are Finally Back To Blogging!!!
We have had a long hiatus from blogging...since J (in PJ's) moved to Texas! PJ's Paper Doll Cut Outs is the progress report or newsletter for the paper dolls created in PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe. As you may know, Phyllis is the artist/mother of the team and Janey is the designer/daughter.
There is still a lot left to complete the transition. Now Phyllis still lives in California and Janey lives in Texas. During this move an exciting thing happened. "PJ's Sally Ann" was published in the Contemporary Doll Collector's Magazine. The March 2008 Issue features "PJ's Sally Ann" with two of her outfits! As with all the paper dolls in PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe, Sally Ann will have pajamas, a wedding dress, and many more outfits when we are through.
Here is a sneak peak at PJ's Sally Ann...
We look forward to blogging again and visiting some of our favorite blogs!

J's Paper Doll Poem: "Twas a Couple of Weeks before Christmas"...
Not a creature was stirring, not even a paper doll;
Their outfits were drawn by the artist with care,
In hopes that little children soon would be there;
The children were gathered around the computer upstairs,
As visions of paper dolls danced in pairs.
So Momma with her paint brush, and I with my scanner,
Arranged our paper dolls in much the same manner.
When out on the web there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my desktop to see what was the matter!
To check out www.pjscorner.net byte by byte.
The snowflakes were falling like new-fallen snow,
As I clicked on the paper doll link on the top row;
When what to my wondering eyes should I see,
But a page full of paper dolls waiting for me.
With a little teddy named Neddy, and International Friends,
More paper animals, Family Friends, Universal kids and twins;
More and more of these paper dolls they came,
As the children personalized and called them by name!
On, Amber! On, Chrissy! On, Juanita and AnnaBelle(y)!
Now, Gracie! Now, Su-Lang! Now, Natasha and PJ’s Paper Baby Doll,
Now, cut away, cut away, cut away all!”
Now, Fawn! Now, Donnie! Now Andy and Gunny!
On, Tuppy! On, Smitty! On, Neddy and Penny!
Now away to their beds the children they flew,
Leaving the site open, so their parents could see, too.
And then in a twinkling, the parents could see,
How much fun cutting out paper dolls really could be.

PJ's Awards Naomi for her helpfulness...
My “mum” and I are proud to present Naomi over at Diary from England with an official PJ’s International Paper Doll Cut Outs Correspondent from ENGLAND badge!

J's International Friends Paper Doll Update: The newest in PJ's Paper Doll Workshoppe...Research from Naomi in England...
Well, Naomi is at it again! She found some information to add to the file on our new International Friends Paper Dolls. The next seven paper dolls in the series are from BRAZIL, COSTA RICA, EGYPT, ITALY, IRELAND, POLAND & SCOTLAND. They will join paper dolls from RUSSIA, AFRICA, MEXICO, JAPAN, NATIVE AMERICA, THE UNITED STATES and ENGLAND.
Our records show that four of these dolls were created last year for a lady that was going to do a banquet for some representatives at Gerber. She didn't win her bid, so we didn't get the order for place cards and flower arrangement displays, however, we had four International Dolls that we could add to our PJ's International Friends Paper Dolls set! Benita from BRAZIL, Adelita from COSTA RICA, Shani from EGYPT and Hanna from POLAND were dusted off and will make their debut in a couple of days.
UPDATE: Major satellite problems, orders and opening our "PJ's CafePress Gift Shoppe" pushed the International Paper Doll Friends debut off until after the holidays. Mom and I have our hands full! The image above is of Benita's Place Cards, the doll and the flower.

Rte Theme over at OPDAG: PJ's Etta Rae
is published in the Fall Issue of "Paper Doll Studio", The Quarterly Publication of the Original Paper Doll Artists Guild. The OPDAG Publication uses the black 'n' white version of the dolls and their outfits except for one doll that is chosen for the color insert. Etta Rae is printed in black 'n' white in the publication, however we added her here in all her glorious splendor of color!

How I Image Paper Dolls Were Created
The idea of cutting out clothes has been around for centuries. We have used many different mediums to clothe our families. So in the spirit of creating and designing outfits that adorn for beauty, comfort, or necessity, the idea of paper dolls was born.
I can imagine the very first designer of clothes looking at her creations laid out on the drawing table thinking that they would make wonderful toys for the children in the village. Getting excited about the idea, she probably said out loud, "Now I will have to fashion a little paper doll to wear these miniature designs".
A little girl must have been hovering near the drawing board as the designer cut out that very first outfit. I can see the little girl with stars in her eyes, waiting not so patiently, excitement evident in her chatter as she asks for the hundredth time, "is it cut out yet?" And then, when it is finally her turn to use the scissors, she carefully cuts out another dress for her new toy. She does not want to be left out of this new idea! She has embarked on an adventure of a life time as her imagination is sparked and the little girl sits for hours playing with her first little paper doll.

CeCe the Little See-Through Paper Doll...
"CeCe" the Little See-Through Paper Doll!
Once upon a time, there was an elderly lady, named Rose, who lived alone and was very lonely. One day on the way home from the Post Office, Rose saw a pink paper doll that looked see-through, in a window of an old antique store. Rose bought the paper doll and took it home.
Rose cut out the little pink see-through paper doll and put her on a shelf close to her rocking chair. She sometimes talked to the see-through paper doll that she had named CeCe. It was a funny thing, but she felt that CeCe could understand her.
On a very cold and rainy day, Sally, Nancy, and Lacey, came to visit Rose. They had complained all morning to their mother that they had nothing to do until she asked them to go visit Rose for her.
The three little girls did not have much to say and Rose did not know what they were interested in, so long periods-of-time went by when no one said a word. It was during one of these quiet times that CeCe surprised everyone when she exclaimed...

Printed on card stock to enhance the paper doll and her clothes, this 8 page, 5.5" x 8.5" booklet is the perfect gift to introduce children to paper dolls. Seven outfits with a few art sparks are nestled among the words of this storybook. The story is written and illustrated by Phyllis Mae Richardson Fisher. Copyright 2007.

How I Imagine Paper Dolls were created...
The idea of cutting out clothes has been around for centuries. We have used many different mediums to clothe our families. So in the spirit of creating and designing outfits that adorn for beauty, comfort, or necessity, the idea of paper dolls was born.
I can imagine the very first designer of clothes looking at her creations laid out on the drawing table and thinking that they would make wonderful toys for the children in the village. She has embarked on an adventure of a life time as her imagination is sparked. The little girl sits for hours playing with her first little paper doll.
Then the designer gets back to work with a sigh of satisfaction that she has caused to come into existence a means by which thoughts could be expressed and made known! However, the new idea doesn't stop there. The little girl has a friend that is bedridden, she is crippled and can't get out to play with the rest of the children of the village. She gathers up her paper doll, the outfits that have not yet been cut out, and a second pair of scissors. With permission from the designer, and a second paper doll for the other little girl, she goes next door to her friends' house.
You can just see the little crippled girl getting better as the two little girls play with the dolls and clothes made of paper. She is smiling and giggling as she tries out each outfit, hanging the purses on the paper dolls arm or maybe off her shoulder, making sure to find the matching hat to put on the little doll of papers' head! When it is time for our thoughtful little girl to go home, she promises to bring new outfits with her the next time she can come over. Written by Janey Loree ~ October 14, 2007

Research from Naomi in England...
She didn't win her bid, so we didn't get the order, however, we had four International Dolls that we could add to our PJ's International Paper Dolls set! Benita from BRAZIL, Adelita from COSTA RICA, Shani from EGYPT and Hanna from POLAND were dusted off and will make their debut in a couple of days. I have to scan them into the computer, cut out their traditional outfits and upload them to the blog before you can see them.
Our paper doll artist, Phyllis, is creating the accessories, flowers, butterflies and instruments for the above mentioned International Friends Paper Dolls, while getting ready Noemi from ITALY, Erin from IRELAND and Greer from SCOTLAND.
In the meantime, I received an email from Naomi, our International Paper Doll Correspondent from ENGLAND. She had talked with a friend of hers who recently visited Egypt on holiday and did some research on the internet. In her email, Naomi sent information about the flower we will be using for our Egyptian Paper Doll. "The Egyptian Lotus flower is a symbol of the sun, creation and re-birth. Better known as the water lily, at night the flower closes and sinks under water and at dawn it rises and opens again." That's pretty neat!
Even though we had already started the design on Shani, we gleaned some valuable information about some extra details including adding the gold beads in Shani's hair. Naomi sent some facts about Egypt and pictures for reference. We didn't create the first four paper dolls as International Friends, so Naomi's suggestion of using an "Oud" as Shani's traditional instrument was the perfect idea.
We received a link to Egyptian names and a suggestion to name our Egyptian paper doll "Zahra" because it meant "flower". Naomi, if we had not already named her that would have been a beautiful name to call our International Paper Doll from EGYPT!
Thanks Naomi. BTW...how do you like the paper doll from ITALY's name? Noemi is the Italian form of your name. But then again, you probably already knew that, with ITALY being one of your favorite vacation spots!

A Couple of PJ's Paper Dolls with English Influence...

NOTICE: This post has been entered in the "England Goes GONZO" Blog Carnival being held on October 1st. For carnival details contact Naomi over at Diary From England!
PJ's very own International Correspondent from England is hosting this blog carnival. The theme for the carnival is therefore "posts that are related to England". What better way to go to the carnival than with PJ's International Friends Paper Doll "Queenie" and PJ's Little Animal Paper Doll "Peppy"!
These paper dolls that were created in PJ's Corner Workshoppe are the inspiration of Phyllis Mae Richardson Fisher. After consulting with Naomi on some of the English ways of life, terms and sayings, Queenie and Peppy took on a whole new perspective. They were no longer colors on paper to cut out. Now we knew first hand that Peppy's night stick was actually called a "truncheon" and that the "Red Admiral" butterfly is as popular in England as the "Monarch" butterfly is here in the States!
Naomi has from time to time written a few posts about how new technology is hampering the kids of today, in the sense that they are not experiencing toys that encourage more interaction than playing with a mouse! Check out SCALEXTRIC CELEBRATES 50TH BIRTHDAY and BRITONS LONG TO RETURN TO 1950's.
PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe is in the business to re-educate kids on the benefits of playing with paper dolls, coloring in books, reading a non virtual book, writing to someone on real stationery, or sending a postcard (as well as an email) from your favorite vacation spot! There is a place for computers in our day and age, however, we need to remember that there is a place for race car tracks, paper dolls and children's books in our kids lives as well.
How to make Earl Grey cookies!

Celebrating Our Country's Independence!!!
PJ's Paper Doll would like to wish a Happy 4th of July to Everyone!!! We will be busy today getting ready for our 4th of July Celebration over at the Franklin Field Horsemen's Association stables! It looks like there will be a big turnout tonight starting with the Trail Ride @ 5:30pm. While everyone is out riding their horses, those of us who don't or can't ride will be gathering around the barbecue grills and food tables under the Ash trees. It is supposed to reach 102 degrees today which is cooler than first predicted!
Take care and have a safe 4th of July.
I will be posting pictures of the celebration over on Mustang 'n' Cowboys.

PJ's Paper Doll Cut Outs Poem...
Poke holes under her arms,And along the dotted lines,
Trimming her up to look just fine!
~
Cut above the dotted lines
On her hats for each dress,
Tilting them all at a pretty angle!
Cut below the dotted lines,
On her shoes and her boots,
Squeezing her feet so they won’t get tangled!
~
Fold the outfit tabs
before trying each one on,
Striking an influential affect!
Bend the purses
With a couple of creases,
Giving them a dimensional effect!
~
Use clear tape,
if you make a mistake,
So it won’t take away from her look.
Then when your through
Use school glue,
Pasting all her “art sparks” in a scrapbook!

Help PJ's Promote Paper Dolls...

PJ's Corner has added this new plaque to the sidebar in an attempt to remind people to tell everyone they know about paper dolls! Not just about PJ's Paper Dolls, (although that would be nice!), but about the paper doll sites that you have found, share your paper doll memories here on PJ's PDCO's and with those around you. PJ's will be looking for paper doll blogs, websites, web rings to link to and anything that has to do with paper dolls. We will be a little picky in that the paper doll info will have to be family oriented. Sometime next year one of PJ's Paper Doll will be published in a "Doll Magazine"! We can't showcase the doll until after it is published.
Paper Dolls make wonderful gifts for anytime of the year. They are perfect for shut-ins and hospital stays. Cutting our paper dolls helps relieve tension! Do you want to get something special just because? A personalized PJ's Universal Paper Doll would fit the bill! No pun intended, of course!!
Let us know how you are "Promoting Paper Dolls!!!"
