How I Imagine Paper Dolls were created...
The idea of cutting out clothes has been around for centuries. We have used many different mediums to clothe our families. So in the spirit of creating and designing outfits that adorn for beauty, comfort, or necessity, the idea of paper dolls was born.
I can imagine the very first designer of clothes looking at her creations laid out on the drawing table and thinking that they would make wonderful toys for the children in the village. Getting excited about the idea, she probably said out loud, "Now I will have to fashion a little paper doll to wear these miniature designs"!
A little girl must have been hovering near the drawing board as the designer cut out that very first outfit. I can see the little girl with stars in her eyes, waiting not so patiently, excitement evident in her chatter as she asks for the hundredth time, "is it cut out yet?" And then, when it is finally her turn to use the scissors, she carefully cuts out another dress for her new toy. She does not want to be left out of this new idea! She has embarked on an adventure of a life time as her imagination is sparked. The little girl sits for hours playing with her first little paper doll.
Then the designer gets back to work with a sigh of satisfaction that she has caused to come into existence a means by which thoughts could be expressed and made known! However, the new idea doesn't stop there. The little girl has a friend that is bedridden, she is crippled and can't get out to play with the rest of the children of the village. She gathers up her paper doll, the outfits that have not yet been cut out, and a second pair of scissors. With permission from the designer, and a second paper doll for the other little girl, she goes next door to her friends' house.
You can just see the little crippled girl getting better as the two little girls play with the dolls and clothes made of paper. She is smiling and giggling as she tries out each outfit, hanging the purses on the paper dolls arm or maybe off her shoulder, making sure to find the matching hat to put on the little doll of papers' head! When it is time for our thoughtful little girl to go home, she promises to bring new outfits with her the next time she can come over. Written by Janey Loree ~ October 14, 2007

Research from Naomi in England...
Well, Naomi is at it again! She found some information to add to the file on our new International Friends Paper Dolls. The next seven paper dolls in the series are from BRAZIL, COSTA RICA, EGYPT, ITALY, IRELAND, POLAND & SCOTLAND. They will join paper dolls from RUSSIA, AFRICA, MEXICO, JAPAN, NATIVE AMERICA, THE UNITED STATES and ENGLAND.
Our records show that four of these dolls were created last year for a lady that was going to do a banquet for some representatives at Gerber. She didn't win her bid, so we didn't get the order, however, we had four International Dolls that we could add to our PJ's International Paper Dolls set! Benita from BRAZIL, Adelita from COSTA RICA, Shani from EGYPT and Hanna from POLAND were dusted off and will make their debut in a couple of days. I have to scan them into the computer, cut out their traditional outfits and upload them to the blog before you can see them.
Our paper doll artist, Phyllis, is creating the accessories, flowers, butterflies and instruments for the above mentioned International Friends Paper Dolls, while getting ready Noemi from ITALY, Erin from IRELAND and Greer from SCOTLAND.
In the meantime, I received an email from Naomi, our International Paper Doll Correspondent from ENGLAND. She had talked with a friend of hers who recently visited Egypt on holiday and did some research on the internet. In her email, Naomi sent information about the flower we will be using for our Egyptian Paper Doll. "The Egyptian Lotus flower is a symbol of the sun, creation and re-birth. Better known as the water lily, at night the flower closes and sinks under water and at dawn it rises and opens again." That's pretty neat!
Even though we had already started the design on Shani, we gleaned some valuable information about some extra details including adding the gold beads in Shani's hair. Naomi sent some facts about Egypt and pictures for reference. We didn't create the first four paper dolls as International Friends, so Naomi's suggestion of using an "Oud" as Shani's traditional instrument was the perfect idea.
We received a link to Egyptian names and a suggestion to name our Egyptian paper doll "Zahra" because it meant "flower". Naomi, if we had not already named her that would have been a beautiful name to call our International Paper Doll from EGYPT!
Thanks Naomi. BTW...how do you like the paper doll from ITALY's name? Noemi is the Italian form of your name. But then again, you probably already knew that, with ITALY being one of your favorite vacation spots!

PJ's Paper Dolls adds Google and Alexa Page Ranks...
For our old address we were ranking 3/10 through the Google Search Engine Ranking. Now that we have a new address we are back to 0/10. Is there is way to point the old address to the new one so that we don't loose our ranking? We hope so! This is the first time we added Alexa Page Rank.

A Couple of PJ's Paper Dolls with English Influence...
NOTICE: This post has been entered in the "England Goes GONZO" Blog Carnival being held on October 1st. For carnival details contact Naomi over at Diary From England!
PJ's very own International Correspondent from England is hosting this blog carnival. The theme for the carnival is therefore "posts that are related to England". What better way to go to the carnival than with PJ's International Friends Paper Doll "Queenie" and PJ's Little Animal Paper Doll "Peppy"!
These paper dolls that were created in PJ's Corner Workshoppe are the inspiration of Phyllis Mae Richardson Fisher. After consulting with Naomi on some of the English ways of life, terms and sayings, Queenie and Peppy took on a whole new perspective. They were no longer colors on paper to cut out. Now we knew first hand that Peppy's night stick was actually called a "truncheon" and that the "Red Admiral" butterfly is as popular in England as the "Monarch" butterfly is here in the States!
Naomi has from time to time written a few posts about how new technology is hampering the kids of today, in the sense that they are not experiencing toys that encourage more interaction than playing with a mouse! Check out SCALEXTRIC CELEBRATES 50TH BIRTHDAY and BRITONS LONG TO RETURN TO 1950's.
PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe is in the business to re-educate kids on the benefits of playing with paper dolls, coloring in books, reading a non virtual book, writing to someone on real stationery, or sending a postcard (as well as an email) from your favorite vacation spot! There is a place for computers in our day and age, however, we need to remember that there is a place for race car tracks, paper dolls and children's books in our kids lives as well.

Celebrating Our Country's Independence!!!
PJ's Paper Doll would like to wish a Happy 4th of July to Everyone!!! We will be busy today getting ready for our 4th of July Celebration over at the Franklin Field Horsemen's Association stables! It looks like there will be a big turnout tonight starting with the Trail Ride @ 5:30pm. While everyone is out riding their horses, those of us who don't or can't ride will be gathering around the barbecue grills and food tables under the Ash trees. It is supposed to reach 102 degrees today which is cooler than first predicted!
Take care and have a safe 4th of July.
I will be posting pictures of the celebration over on Mustang 'n' Cowboys.

Help PJ's Promote Paper Dolls...
PJ's Corner has added this new plaque to the sidebar in an attempt to remind people to tell everyone they know about paper dolls! Not just about PJ's Paper Dolls, (although that would be nice!), but about the paper doll sites that you have found, share your paper doll memories here on PJ's PDCO's and with those around you. PJ's will be looking for paper doll blogs, websites, web rings to link to and anything that has to do with paper dolls. We will be a little picky in that the paper doll info will have to be family oriented. Sometime next year one of PJ's Paper Doll will be published in a "Doll Magazine"! We can't showcase the doll until after it is published.
Paper Dolls make wonderful gifts for anytime of the year. They are perfect for shut-ins and hospital stays. Cutting our paper dolls helps relieve tension! Do you want to get something special just because? A personalized PJ's Universal Paper Doll would fit the bill! No pun intended, of course!!
Let us know how you are "Promoting Paper Dolls!!!"

Queenie - An International Friends Paper Doll from ENGLAND
What a day for the debut of Queenie, PJ's International Friends Paper Doll from England! Queen Elizabeth II is in the US! She will be dining with the President and First Lady Bush as well as commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown, VA.
This is the first time in 16 years that the Queen has visited the United States. She will also visit Williamsburg, VA one of the towns were the American Dream was born. She will be attending the Kentucky Derby and visiting with the students and family affected by the Virginia Tech massacre.
I teared up as they played the National Anthem for England, "God Save the Queen" as the Queen descended the stairs of the British Airways plane and stood at the end of the carpet, wearing an outfit of gray, trimmed with lavender and salmon. As always she wore an English style hat with soft gray feathers nestled against a crown of salmon.
Our paper doll, Queenie is wearing a gown of red and gold. A scepter is in Queenie's right hand and the English Rose is in her left hand. Just like Tiffany from the United States, Queenie is a pianist. Her black Steinway travels with her to all her concerts. Queenie's favorite flower is of course the English Rose and the Red Admiral is her favorite butterfly. There will be many outfits available for Queenie in PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe in the near future!
If you have been reading the comments on our other International Friends Paper Dolls, you will know that Naomi who shares English life with us on her blog "Diary From England ", has written "Answers to Some Questions" answering some of the questions we encounter with all of our International Friends Paper Dolls!
